Day 9 My first blister plaster

Now I know what the stunt man in Broke Back Mountain must have felt like. It’s all getting a little tender down there. My right knee is so painful it takes my mind off my left knee and bum.

I’m consious I’ve not been responding to emails or your messages of support. Sorry but it’s all I can do to blog!

We stayed at a gypsy campsite last night and when we woke the bikes were all still there and the wheels were on the van – so its not true what they say!

It was overcast which meant long sleeves. Just as well really as we were just up the road from Balmoral – got to show the Queen a bit of respect. So now it was up through the Highlands, Inverness and up to Rosemarkie – just 95 miles today.

It was hell. I visited 2 ski resorts, two 1 in 5 hills and then I hit a sign saying “Welcome To The Highlands” and a sign next to it saying “1 in 8” and it was a long one.

I got in late and it was 1.00 before I got to bed and I needed to be up early the next day as it was the last day and I faced 125 miles!

About marmiteman

Marmite man will be cycling 1000 miles over 10 days from Land's End to John O'Groats raising money for Mark Carey. My wife Lesley & grandsons Jake, Callum and Dylan and their Auntie Vicky are the support crew - not that they will be around during the day!

    Well Done so far.
On Sunday morning, I hoped to give you a surprise meeting (Stanley meets Dr Livingston…sort of thing!) ….so I left home at 10.20am and drove northwards from Edinburgh over the Forth Road Bridge and up the M90 past Kinross. I looked out for you from Kinross northwards….but no sign of you. I followed the road all the way around Perth and further north, up the A9 to Dunkeld in Perthshire, but still no sign of the Marmiteman. I did stop and chat to one cyclist whom I thought might be you, but he wasn’t a LEJOG’er!
In Dunkeld, I walked my dog along the banks of the River Tay; then lunched in the lovely Dunkeld Hilton Hotel……then homewards bound at circa 2pm.
It wasn’t till I got home that I read that you were aiming for Braemar, which rather threw me, because I didn’t think that was the shortest route to Inverness….or were you taking the (less fast traffic) scenic routes?
Anyway, I am sorry I missed you. Lots of luck and the cheque will be in the post!
