David & Lesley’s Fantastic Journey

Welcome to my blog and my thoughts on the happenings our lives.  Before you get too excited, this is for me not you so try not to be too critical.  My memory is shot to bits these days so henceforth I am building myself a record to reflect on.  That said, my memory was never that good.  I blame the car accident my Mother and I had when I was 12 when a builders van pulled in front of us as she drove our MK1 Cortina back from dropping off my cousin Paul at Heathrow.  Amazingly, I can remember the registration of the car BYT 497B, but struggle to remember my current cars.  My head smashed into the roof as did my Mothers and the parcel shelf shattered into her leg.  I can remember loads before that but thereafter there are huge blanks thereafter which is a pity as everyone I know always reminds me what good times we had and I just have to nod try to be as enthusiastic as they are.  I daresay that matters have not been helped by my early indulgences in herbal cigarettes and alcohol.

Hopefully my meanderings will help me recall my mis-spent youth in order that I can savour it in the latter half of my middle age.  Meanwhile I shall focus on the present, the now.

Any references to Marmiteman are residue from when I first set up a blog back in 2010 for my Land’s End to John Groats solo cycle ride to raise money for a very lovely guy called Mark Carey the ex-assistant pro at my golf club.  Mark was unfortunate enough to have a brain tumour and had matters compounded when he was treated at the notorious Staffordshire hospital during its negligent heyday. After nicking an artery in his brain causing him to have a stroke his fate was sealed.  He was surviving on State benefits and I had wanted to make his last months a bit more comfortable.  Unfortunately his last few months turned into weeks and he passed away early in 2011.

About marmiteman

Marmite man will be cycling 1000 miles over 10 days from Land's End to John O'Groats raising money for Mark Carey. My wife Lesley & grandsons Jake, Callum and Dylan and their Auntie Vicky are the support crew - not that they will be around during the day!
